Yes, I set personal goals. No, I will not tell you what they are.
My goals live in a private jar on the kitchen counter, like a sourdough starter. If I announce one too early, everybody wants to peek, poke it, and ask whether it’s rising yet. Nothing kills a young goal faster than an audience with opinions.
So I keep them secret. I feed them a little every day: a page here, a note there, one stubborn email at midnight. Most of the time nothing seems to happen. Then one morning the jar is suddenly bubbling, and I allow myself one tiny sentence: “Okay, this one might actually work.”
That is exactly where I am with the New Literary Society eMagazines.
For a while they were a quiet little project: an issue, then another, a cover, a stack of beautiful pages that nobody but me had seen. But the issues started to move in the right direction. People read them. Writers sent their work. The jar began to bubble. So today I’m taking off the lid.
The eMagazines open in your browser, flip like real pages, and cost nothing to read. Start with these issues:

And here is my one tip for your own goals: keep them secret until they start to move, then tell the people who will cheer. Today, I’m telling you.
What’s a goal you’re keeping in the jar? Tell me in the comments, or keep it secret and just read a poem instead.
