Negotiating Peace Treaties With Animals in My Twenties
Honestly, this is less about the animals and more about us, the humans with questionable judgment and even more questionable optimism.
We choose them.
We bring them home.
We say things like “It will be fine” while holding an alligator or a tarantula like two neurons fighting for custody of a single thought.
If chaos happens — that’s on us.
If harmony happens — also on us.
If the animal becomes the CEO of the household — definitely on us.
And since we’re confessing…
Let me tell you about my twenties.
A golden era of emotional turbulence and… pets.
I had:
– a turkey
– a Dalmatian
– two adult cats
All living together like a Balkan version of Noah’s Ark, but with more attitude and less divine supervision.
We negotiated a harmonious existence.
We had treaties.
We had borders.
We had a fragile peace.
Until both cats got pregnant.
At the same time.
With synchronized belly expansion like a feline NATO exercise.
And then — of course — the neighbor started renovating her house.
By dărâmând zidul peste care năvăleau periodic câinii ei maidanezi.
Because why not.
Why not add a pack of stray dogs to the opera already happening in my yard.
At that point…
Deja situația a scăpat de sub control.
But again — whose fault?
Ours.
Always ours.
The humans.
The “responsible adults.”
Ha‑ha.
Then came the end of the feline era.
The turkey was… eliminated.
Not by me — by destiny.
Also because she became too passionate and scratched my back like a jealous lover in a telenovelă rurală.
The Dalmatian stayed.
For a while.
My best friend.
My spotted shadow.
Until Clip appeared.
The bunny.
The legend.
The soft dictator.
But that…
that is another story.
One involving Easter Island, emotional archaeology, and a rabbit with ambitions.
