🔥 Day 5 — On Work, Value, and the Art of Fair Exchange

Daily writing prompt
What job would you do for free?

A job is never free. Volunteering is free. And in the writing world, we often navigate the space in between — swaps, collaborations, mutual support. Review for review. Beta‑reading for proofreading. A translation in exchange for an interview. These are fair, respectful exchanges that keep a creative community alive.

But a job done for free? No. That doesn’t feel right. Even when I edit or work for my own publication, it’s not “free” — it’s maintenance, like cleaning my own house or washing my face. It’s part of the ecosystem I build and care for.
