Sweet Impermanence
Zest, Calm, and a Bit of Magic
Dear Friends, Writers, and Followers of New Literary Society Pub
Some birthdays taste like lemon-licorice sorbet melting on your tongue — sharp, sweet, spicy, and impossible not to savor, even as it disappears.
Others feel like the slow exhale of vanilla incense curling through a silent room — inviting you to lean in, breathe deep, meditate, and feel the world soften around you.
This year, on May 29, I did both.
- Morning light spilled onto my cluttered floor, ants running away like tiny spirits as I cleared space, removed two Ikea armchairs — each released a soft sigh, like a symbolic reminder from my dear ex-lover letting go…
- They made room for my new ergonomic throne — perfect for writing, reclining, or playing at just the right angle.
- At lunch, the crisp snap of schnitzel crust cracked under my fork, mingling with the fresh crunch of salad — then the silky, dense, raw… three colored mousses slid over my tongue, dark and seductive, milky and foamy, fruity and tart.
- In the afternoon, I edited some of your stories for NLS Medium and prepared the June edition of the NLS E-Magazine.
- By the time I started writing this piece, the clock winked 10:32 pm — night cold and humid outside, smelling like honeysuckle and linden tree…
- In the quiet evening, I looked back on this shared Medium path we’ve been walking — almost two years now.
A Shared Path of Growth and Storytelling
- We’ve celebrated bright moments.
- We’ve moved through judgment, tension, sorrow, even grief.
- And we’ve grown like vines entwined.
- Truth?
- I lingered here for your stories — like a moth drawn to flame — or maybe it’s just karma’s playful hand weaving the story.
If you’re curious, here’s a little of what I’ve been working on in 2025:
📖 Book of Love and Gossip
Now available in English and Spanish, with a print edition on the way.
📰 The NLS E-Magazine (Jan–May 2025)
Full of stories, voices, and creative fire — and you’re invited to join.
🦋 The Sweet Kingdom of Pheromones
A new collaborative project I can’t wait for you to explore — and maybe even get involved with.
And, if you’re curious about the way I was thinking in 2023 and 2024, take a look at these interviews:
Dear Friends,
Today’s my day again (June 1st)! 😁 My best gift this year? A brand-new gaming chair! You’re only as old as your last game, your last reader, or your last giggle — so go ahead and wish me a Happy Birthday (or Happy Anniversary, if you like). On May 29, I was too busy playing (with words) to celebrate with you online, so I’m making up for it now! 💃🎂✨
Thank you so much for your kindness and love. 💖 If you’d rather not be tagged in future posts, just let me know. 💫 And remember: today is your day too — because all artists are children at heart. Keep creating.
With gratitude,
Julia Kalman
