Dear Writers, Dreamers, Fighters, and Unicorns,
Are you ready to embrace the enchantment of winter and let your creativity shine like frost on a winter morning? The New Literary Society warmly invites you to our Winter Trabble Contest, a cozy challenge to write a 300-word story while letting winter take center stage!
Now, I hear you:
“Julia, what if I’ve never seen snow this year?”
Friend, I get it. Where I live, snowflakes are mostly spotted on ornaments.
Our last epic winter?
2012. We cut three sheep that year, and suddenly everyone in the family thought they were a master sausage maker (don’t judge). We hung the sausages out in the frosty garden, and the sparrows went nuts, pecking at them like it was a free buffet. Honestly, if that’s what made the recipe special, who am I to argue?
But even that’s nothing compared to the legendary blizzards of 1954 — Grandma swore she waded through snow tunnels to her work at the publishing house.
And there is also my great-great grandma’s tale from the 1920s… or was it the 1820s?
Snow or no snow, your winter inspiration doesn’t need a weather forecast! Whether it’s a cold dream, a ski trip memory, a freezer disaster, or simply your imagination running wild, anything goes.
Me? Winter 2012 inspired my YA novel’s dramatic ending that left me wondering, “Will we even wake up tomorrow?”
More recently? Last year’s heating calamity involved five days of Arctic temperatures. I felt like the “Girl with the Matches,” but with my dear Republic of Gamers laptop to keep toasty (thank you, Medium stories!). My brain froze, my skull felt like steel, and… still, I typed like a madwoman.
So, whether you’re thawing your fingers on a keyboard or daydreaming about snowy peaks, let winter inspire your creativity. Write your heart out, submit it, and let us see what icy brilliance you can bring to life!
So… submit now, and let’s make winter unforgettable.
With frosty love and warm laughs,
Julia & The NLS Team
