Motto: Listen and follow your path. The steps along the way are where the magic and beauty happen.
1. That Special Moment
One fine day, you started writing poems/stories. How did it happen exactly?
JR: I discovered my writing voice in a very unusual way.
Several years ago, I was in an abusive relationship, and when I left, the healing journey began. I stumbled upon several online forums explicitly geared to this type of abuse, and I started participating in the discussions by sharing my story and reading about other victims’ experiences. I realized through these writings that I enjoyed this process.
Over time, I learned to write effectively about going from victim to survivor.
2. Art Is Work
What does your work as a writer consist of? What are the biggest challenges of the present?
JR: I write mostly poetry and prose and the occasional article. My goal is to write more articles that relate to personal experiences. My writing often explores spirituality, personal experiences, family moments, and the occasional response to a writing prompt.
My biggest challenge now is following a daily writing routine.
So many Medium articles offer tips and advice regarding this, and my routine is starting to develop.
3. Without Projects, There Is No Future
What are your representative projects? What projects are you working on?
JR: I don’t have a significant project per se, but one of my goals is to publish a collection of my writings for my children and grandchildren to enjoy as they age. The insights into who their mother and grandmother are/were will hopefully clarify past times and help them understand who I was at certain times in my life journey.
Seven years ago, I moved to a foreign country to experience a different culture, a warmer climate by the beach, and a new language. I want to write articles to draw on my journey here.
4. The Scent of Creation
Describe a scent that immediately transports you to a moment of inspiration or creativity. What emotions does it evoke, and how does it influence your creative process?
JR: When I am in the garden in full bloom with various flowers, all the scents in the air fill me with peace, joy, and a feeling of being so alive. The emotions are also mixed. Memories of past moments, both happy and sad. Memories of the garden I tended to in the past. Flower gardens bring clarity to me. They open my mind and take me to raw, pure, deep places. My creative energy is sparked immediately.
5. Ink and Intimacy
If your writing style were a tactile experience, what texture would it be? How does putting pen to paper or fingers to keyboard make you feel on a deeply personal level?
JR: The texture that first comes to mind is sleek and smooth. The occasional rough area offers some twists and turns that offer depth. The soft texture provides a sense of positivity and humor.
Putting my fingers on the keyboards takes me to a place of vulnerability mixed with self-empowerment. I also feel a sense of freedom to explore and see parts of myself waiting to be discovered. I look for self-truth in my writings.
6. The Harmony of Silence
Think about a moment when silence spoke louder than words in your creative journey. What were the circumstances, and how did it shape your understanding of your craft?
JR: I crave silence. My higher voice comes alive during silence and a peaceful surrounding. Topics and words to write will start flowing naturally, and I let this process carry me to my following poem or prose.
7. The Palette of Dreams
Imagine your creative mind as a painter’s palette. What colors dominate your artistic spectrum, and how do they represent the different facets of your imagination?
JR: I lean towards bold and vibrant colors. Peacock blue, hot pink, and bold yellow with lime green come to mind. I also love the contrast of black and white.
I imagine a rainbow of these bold colors when my writing is filled with joy, happiness, and deep, sensitive emotions. When I write about traumatic personal experiences, a sense of seeing in black and white dominates — almost like watching an old movie in black and white. A hint of gray comes into play as well.
8. The Quill of Vulnerability
What truths and vulnerabilities would you unveil if your creative expression were a handwritten letter to your inner self? How does exposing your innermost thoughts contribute to your artistic identity?
JR: As I age, my sense of worthiness and uniqueness comes more alive. Self-truth is ever-evolving. My vulnerability to allowing others’ opinions to clutter my mind is a beast that is slowly dying. Unconditional self-love and self-acceptance are priorities for me. I strive to conquer these priorities in my daily journey and my writing.
9. Symphony of Shadows
Consider a character or theme in your work that embodies the shadows of your own psyche. What does this shadow teach you about your fears, desires, or unexplored dimensions of your creativity? Is that the case?
JR: Yes. The majority of my writings are spiritual. They capture my core beliefs and how I strive to navigate daily life.
My spiritual nature allows me to explore all facets of my human nature and view my reality from many perspectives. My writings reflect a positive attitude toward life. Life is full of contrasts; without them, it would be difficult to understand any situation’s positive and negative aspects.
10. Echoes of Childhood Whispers
Recall a childhood memory that resonates with you as a writer. How do the echoes of your early experiences manifest in your work today?
JR: The first thought that comes to mind is that at approximately 8, I wrote a straightforward short poem in my head. This poem has resonated with me through the years. When I play this poem over in my head as an adult, I can see the depth and various mazes it takes through different perspectives. Maybe someday I will use this poem in my writing. For now, it remains excellent in my mind privately.
11. Melodies of Memory
If your memories were composed as a musical score, what instrument would represent your most cherished creative recollections? How does the melody of your past influence the composition of your present work?
JR: The piano’s versatility strikes me. To me, the piano tells stories beyond the written word. It brings out unfiltered emotions and memories that have remained buried until ready to surface with the right influence.
12. The Dance of Words
If your writing style were a dance, what would be the rhythm and tempo? How does the cadence of your sentences mirror the beating of your creative heart?
JR: Slow dancing with a partner comes to mind. The intimacy and feeling of courtship during the music and slow dance mix opens up my creative side.
13. Admiration Exercises
Which writers do you admire? What are your favorite books?
JR: I love mysteries, crime novels, and detective stories. A book written with edgy humor will keep me engrossed until the end. I enjoy Jonathan Kellerman, John Grisham, Fredrik Backman, Paulo Coelho, and Emily Giffin, to name a few.
My favorite book of all time is Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy. I was emotional throughout and felt broken at the end. Tolstoy captured every emotion possible and wrote timeless stories. Every generation can relate to the twists and turns and events he wrote about.
14. An Indiscreet Question
With which influential author or inspirational figure from life, past or present, would you most like to share a cup of tea and a captivating conversation?
JR: I wrote a short article about Mother Teresa not long ago. She remains a guiding light to this day. Her open heart and pure soul were precious gifts she inhabited.
To sit and share a cup of tea with her would be an honor.
15. A Story in Ten Words
This person lived life fully, passing with a peaceful heart.
16. A Favorite Fragment from Your Works
May your head rest when ready
May your eyes close when the time
May your breath slow and soften
May your spirit fly home and shine
17. Contact Information
How can you be contacted?
JR: weaverellenjulie@gmail.com
18. Blog/Author Page/Social Media Profile
Where can we read your stories?
JR: Currently, I’m not active with my writing on social media
19. What exactly would you like to convey to a fellow writer/editor/screenwriter/film producer?
Present your writings in a few words.
JR:We are all unique individuals. Through the voice of writing, I hope to capture my unique individualism and put a stamp on my journey in this current life.
20. Embers of Endings
Envision the conclusion of a significant project. How do you feel as you pen the final words or brush the last strokes? What is the emotional resonance of pre-completion, and how does it influence your anticipation for the next artistic endeavor?
JR: A sigh of relief filled with pride and the internal knowledge that personal boundaries are fluid, comfort zones can be shifted, and the prize of self-discovery is one of the most profound feelings imaginable.
Dear Cherished Writers, Please, clap, engage, and stay tuned for the next story! Most importantly, a profound thank you to each one of you. Your unwavering support has been invaluable. And… if you’d prefer not to be tagged in our future posts, just let us know.
