Dear Friends,

Sending a heartfelt thank you for your support of me and my co-editor, Sal Gallaher, on our writing journey.

One month ago, I mentioned juggling the NLS publication, family, reading your stories, and freelance work while Sal and I focused on our personal projects.

I’m thrilled to share that Sal is making strides on her project and we’re eagerly anticipating her new book.

As for my sixth book, it’s still in progress, waiting for a quieter time, perhaps during the fall or winter break.

Here’s what’s on my plate:

1. Reposting Author Interviews: I’ve exported all posts from Medium to WordPress. Soon, all these posts will be freely available on our WordPress site for non-members.

2. Translating Author Interviews: Next, I’ll focus on translating the remaining interviews into German and Romanian, in addition to the English and Romanian versions already available.

3. Communicating with Authors

Thank you once again for your continued support!

Warmly,

Julia

Sure thing 😹

Before the Competition: Stewardess by Julia Kalman

Last spring, my friends and I found ourselves in a beautiful city stuck between drink-induced memory loss and grand Slavic-style buildings.

We walked from room to room, like excited explorers, through an appealing pavilion.

Glittering gems from a ground-floor jewelry shop caught our eye, but the most fascinating display we found in that special room was a set of complex metal and marble penises decorated with gleaming precious stones.

A wild scene broke out as an intriguing beige Persian cat with mesmerizing golden eyes unleashed its anger on innocent bystanders.

The cat belonged to the flight attendant, but instead of calming her pet, Cherry amazed onlookers with a remarkable show.

Cherry took off her uniform and strutted in a striking beige lace catsuit that hugged her young body.

As she moved, sad music filled the room, and her graceful steps held the crowd spellbound.

No one knows if the cat copied Cherry’s act or if Cherry drew inspiration from the cat’s odd actions.

Despite everything, Coin found the scene irresistible.

He reached for his wallet and took out some cash before walking up to Cherry, who welcomed him with a gentle smile.

“What’s she doing?”

“What?!” yelled one uncle.

“They’re just girls, they’re having fun!” an artist shouted.

“Oh, yes,” the uncle said.

“Oh, no, I know what they’re up to. They tempt men and rob their money!” a woman cried out eating a pretzel.

A kid asked, “Who is that weird seductress?”

“It’s a cat too, with small breasts!” the artist shouted.

The girl yelled, “Beautiful breasts!”

“No, she turns on men and takes their cash!” the housewife shouted biting her pretzel.

“She doesn’t take anything from anyone, she’s a nice girl!” the artist yelled.

The uncle asked in shock, “Who Cherry?”

“Not her, the cat, you goof!” the housewife with the pretzel shouted.

“I’ve known her since she was young, and she started her job by giving out free toothpaste,” Coin said.

“Do you mean adult films?” the uncle asked.

“Yes, that too.”

“As you can see, she has style now and is a real lady,” the artist said.

This back-and-forth kept going, while Cherry and the cat, not bothered at all, danced .

Cherry’s love for the stunning golden Persian, showed as the cat moved with elegance around the art pieces seeming to understand their worth.

She reached out to me with her soft paws and surprised me with a strong hug.

With signs of a recent kiss still on her mouth, our faces touched before she moved on leaving me confused yet curious.

“Hold her close,” the artist told me.

“No,” the housewife with the pretzel said.

“Stop being silly and kiss her,” the artist added.

“I don’t want to look at that,” the housewife with the pretzel replied.

But, life had different ideas.

That summer, I started a fun trip to the Netherlands where we met again with warm hugs and plans for wild nights of dancing.

As our plane took off, a charming blonde flight attendant gave me lots of chocolates, while my friend got me drunk on endless cherry joy.

The captain told us about an air pocket, and he asked us all to pray.

The signal was interrupted just a second later by an alarming tremor, accompanied by a wild dance of stewardess tables. I clung to the nearest steward for dear life in this mayhem.

Amidst all the panic, amusingly, I found out someone’s birthday!

The groggy staff, the trembling passengers, and even the air gap itself being so unpredictable had us all on edge.

Not even the pilot’s commando doodoo could save us from that shared anxiety that sort of gripped our spirits.

The captain’s hushed voice finally found its way through the transmission after a rather nail-biting hour, reassuring that all was back to order; though not without a chilling notion — we were about to. die.

The stewardesses served us some titi-banging-cherry-noodles-with-strawberries, and the steward kissed me tenderly, but I knew what I wanted: to get rid of him, the elegant way.

You understand, don’t you?

But never mind.

IF A CRASH LANDING WAS INEVITABLE, SO I CHOSE TO EMBRACE THE GAL POWER AND CRASH IN STYLE!
