Only you alone, you saw how I suffered,

Only you alone believed in my torment,

You sheltered the thoughts in my head –

As night struggled with light in my soul.

Only you alone, you lent me your hand,

When I once came, scorned and threatened –

When no familiar hearth offered itself to me,

When I stood alone on vast earth…

Only you alone, you never saddened me,

Since you beheld how deeply impoverished I was –

Only you alone once took pity on me,

Protected me — and never loved me…

Don’t say I should avoid you

And never see you again,

Even if I wanted to leave you,

Where would I go? –

You know, I have

No home then –

No happiness — and no place

Where I can rest…

Love Song

Your mouth, beautifully curved,

Your smile, gently grazing me,

Your gaze, embracing me,

Your lap, warming me,

Your arm, encircling me,

Your word, singing to me,

Your hair, where I immerse myself,

Your breath, gently breathing on me,

Your heart, like a wild foal,

The soul, unveiled,

The feet, which ran,

As my lips called out:

Belongs to me, it’s all mine,

Wouldn’t know what I’d treasure most,

And even if hell or heaven were to offer:

One and everything, all and one.
