Fine Art by Dan Botezan.

Through walls darkened, by dampness’ scent,

Death’s cold spirit creeps, silently bent;

A single voice whispers words of sweet,

Bound within the ancient gospel’s sheet.

With a candle in hand, the old man, snowbeard,

From pages with oil, the folk heared,

That death in battle with eternal life contends,

For three days conquers, its prey it defends.

A music profound, with gentle touch,

Penetrates the vaults, its melody clutch;

“Destruction, Holy Lord, touched every shore,

Poisoning even life’s sacred core.

Nothing before you, man is but a flake,

And this nothing seeks your soothing make,

In clusters resounding with tender cries,

From our prayers, Father, let blessings arise.”

Then silence again, trembling and fear,

And darkness recoils from whispers near,

Twelve steps echo, midnight’s core,

Suddenly, light bursts through the blackened door.

A tumult of voices, a joyous swell,

There, at the altar, priests and folk dwell,

As Christ rises triumphant from the tomb’s yoke,

And all hearts join in harmonious stroke:

Songs and praises we raise,

To You alone, our voices we blaze,

Receiving Him with psalms and palms,

Bow down, all, in heavenly qualms,

Singing Hallelujah!

“Christ is risen from the dead,

Conquering death by death,

And on those in the grave bestowing life!”
