Love Rhymes

How faithfully we loved in those days,

Our hearts stood firm like the sun.

Apart, how much we had to say,

And always said just one thing: Do you love? Yes!

Oh love, can you pass like a dream of nights

That seem endless?

It feels to me as if it thought of me from afar

And asked: Do you love me? Say yes like before!

Do you grasp the wonder?

I cannot grasp it.

We laughed and suffered

And scarcely knew each other.

We searched and sensed

And hardly saw each other,

Then within us both grew

A dream of blossoms.

We stood defiantly

And kept our distance,

Then a star extinguished

Above our heads.

Now your dear face rests

Close to my heart –

Do you grasp the wonder?

I cannot grasp it.
