Oh dearest, let us hasten,
Time’s at our door;
Delaying, love we’re wastin’,
It harms us more.
The gifts of noble beauty
Fade step by step,
All we hold, our duty,
Must soon be swept.
The cheeks’ adornment pales now,
Hair turns to gray,
The eyes’ fire, once avow,
Melts far away.
The lips, once coral glowing,
Lose their fair grace,
The hands, like snow, are slowing,
And age we’ll face.
So let’s embrace this pleasure
While youth is ripe,
Before we face the measure
Of time’s swift stripe.
If you love yourself truly,
Then love me too,
Give so, when you give duly,
We both renew.
