You, lost in black eternity,
Sweet star, beloved by my soul!
Once, you gleamed so vividly,
When in the world, just you and I strolled.
Oh gentle, most tender light!
Eternally, among the stars, my desire seeks you,
And often to you, on a clear night,
My thoughts soar in the realm of the immortal view.
Years of tears have passed, and many more may fly
From the hour of storm when I lost you!
My longing finds no solace, and my deep sigh
Echoes, a sad eternity without breakthrough!
Joys of love, enchanting delight!
Always! Magnificent dreams of a proud tomorrow!
Extinguished in a moment, like passing stars bright,
Leaving a profound darkness in their sorrow.
Extinguished! Since then, in my harsh wandering,
No other solace on this earth have I found,
Than to raise my tender thoughts, conjuring,
To you, smiling star beyond the burial ground!
For much, ah! much in life, I loved you,
Oh sweet caress of my soul!
And much happiness you once did strew,
When in the world, just you and I were whole!
Beautiful little angel with white wings,
Like a golden dream, you shone in my life,
And swiftly in heavens, like a flower’s scent sings,
You left, leaving me a cherished souvenir, rife.
A souvenir, a treasure of blissful dreams,
Of precious, fervent, sweet kisses,
Of luminous and divine sunbeams,
Of Venetian nights filled with bliss.
A poetic souvenir, the crown of my life,
That caresses and revives my tender heart,
Uniting with the harps of stars so rife,
When I bow to you, oh dear, serene star!
You, through love, to love’s sun so bright,
Awakened in me poetic sensations,
Accept in another world these tears so light,
As a sweet echo of our sweet love’s vibrations!
