Imagine

Imagine stepping into a lively, bustling café, where the aroma of freshly brewed ideas fills the air.

This is Medium, a sanctuary for writers and readers alike.

We’re embarking on a charming journey through this vibrant ecosystem, unveiling the obstacles to circumvent and the keys to creating captivating responses that magnetically draw in your audience.

Life doesn’t come with a recipe card, and neither does Medium.

You might be the seasoned storyteller whose narratives captivate the community, or you could be the passionate novice, absorbing the wisdom of others while scattering thoughtful insights of your own.

The landscape isn’t always monochrome or even a simple shade of grey.

The Beauty of Medium

Sometimes it’s a painter’s palette of lavenders and sunsets, a spectrum of thoughts yearning to be explored. At other times, it feels like an intimidating fortress, challenging you to conquer it.

Scaling that fortress demands the right tools: riveting articles and engaging responses.

And while the classic maxim advocates ‘quality over quantity,’ within the humming beehive of Medium, it’s about striking a balance.

Strive for a hundred responses daily; envision each one as a seed planted in rich soil, promising a bountiful harvest.

As for penning captivating articles?

Ah, that’s a tale yet to be told. Keep your eyes peeled.

How Not to Write Responses on Medium

Inconsistency is a Downfall

Aleatoric commenting is a no-go. Establish a routine and make it a goal to comment on a set number of stories daily. Consistency builds connections, and networking is key.

Aim for Visibility

Set a target for daily views. If you fall short, consider increasing your networking efforts. Be proactive in engaging with the community.

Know Your Audience

Focus on commenting on the articles of your followers. Understand your audience; they are your genuine supporters. While commenting on high-profile posts may seem tempting, the impact on audience growth may be minimal.

Actively Network

Posting without networking is like publishing a book without promotion. Make time to read and comment amid your daily tasks, hobbies, and writing.

Active engagement is the driver of growth.

Reading is Essential

Never comment without reading the article. Genuine engagement requires understanding the content.

Warmth Over Coldness

Be polite and warm in your comments. Show genuine interest in the stories you engage with. Avoid being too formal or overly simplistic.

Express Your Involvement

Your comments should reflect your connection with the story.

Avoid being too objective; let the author and audience feel your emotional involvement.

Love or Hate, Be Honest

Share your true feelings about a story.

Constructive negative feedback is acceptable, but avoid being destructive.

Say No to Spam

Spam comments are counterproductive and may lead to being blocked by Medium.

Watch Comment Length

Find a balance; neither too long nor too short.

Long comments may be tedious, while short ones might seem insincere.

Stay Relevant

Ensure your comments are related to the article’s subject.

Irrelevant or nonsensical comments may be off-putting.

Explicit Praise

Express praise explicitly, specifying what you found great about the article. Avoid generic compliments.

Be Polite

Thank the author for sharing and expressing gratitude for their expertise. Politeness goes a long way.

Avoid Self-Promotion

Refrain from mentioning your writings, achievements, or articles in comments on another writer’s work.

Sincerity Matters

Be genuine in your comments. Avoid insincerity or obvious praise; authenticity resonates with readers.

Encouragement in Moderation

While encouragement is good, excess may come off as patronizing. Strike a balance.

Clichés and Copy-Pasting

Steer clear of clichés and refrain from copying and pasting chunks from the article into your comment.

No Pretense of Intelligence

Avoid trying to sound overly smart. Be genuine and express your thoughts clearly.

Empathy with Caution

Be cautious when expressing empathy for issues you may not fully understand. Some topics require sensitivity.

Avoid Fatigue-Induced Brain Fog

Don’t comment when tired. Overexertion can lead to unclear, incoherent responses. Set realistic daily limits.

Maintain Boundaries

Don’t comment excessively on your favorites’ articles. Healthy boundaries are crucial.

Avoid Pushiness

Refrain from being too pushy, clingy, or stalky. Medium is not a platform for dating; respect others’ privacy. Do not comment daily on more than two or three stories from the same author.

How I Write Responses on Medium

  • So here’s the drill. Every day, like clockwork, I dive into my Followers list.
  • I pluck out a Couple of Stories from each one, sometimes even three if I’m feeling particularly adventurous. It’s a ritual of sorts, almost therapeutic until my reading list is bursting at the seams with over a hundred stories.
  • Then, armed with my arsenal of tales, I Embark on My Reading Marathon. I soak in every word, every thought, every emotion, leaving a trail of highlights and comments in my wake. You know, just making my presence known, sprinkling a bit of myself in the margins.

But then, right when I’m in the thick of it, the dreaded red line appears. “No more comments,” it taunts. And just like that, my commenting spree hits a brick wall. But hey, who’s complaining? There’s always tomorrow, right?

How to Write Short, Impactful Responses

Alright, so… comment two, or three stories from each writer once. Write 100 responses daily. And now, let’s shift gears and dive into the nitty-gritty of penning short yet stimulating responses.

Trim the Fat

Craft your comments to be lean and mean. Stick to a single paragraph — no more, no less.

Spotlight the Gems

Zero in on those nuggets in the article that really struck a chord with you.

Emoji Etiquette

Sure, emojis can add a dash of zest, but sprinkle them in like seasoning — not too much, just right.

Stir Up Curiosity

Kickstart a conversation by tossing in questions that tie back to the content.

Show Some Love

Don’t shy away from showering some well-deserved appreciation for the enlightenment you gleaned from the piece.

So, you’ve got this golden ticket, right?

Exactly 100 responses to scatter across Medium each day. Sounds like a fun little game, doesn’t it?

But here’s the kicker: they vanish at midnight, like Cinderella’s carriage. So, what are you going to do? Let them sit there, unused, and unappreciated? Or are you going to toss those comments around like confetti at a parade?

Please, clap, engage, and… stay tuned for the next story…! But, most importantly, a profound thank you to each one of you. Your unwavering support has been invaluable.
