My Soul Food: The Stories Behind the Cravings

Daily writing prompt
What’s your go-to comfort food?

Hello, dear readers! πŸ˜„

These days, I’ve been pondering about my comfort food. Ha, what a question! πŸ€” Especially since I wrote a book about weight loss based on a soul analysis. Who would have thought that emotions and cravings could weave such a complex culinary dance?

In my book, I talk about the connection between emotions and cravings. About foods that satisfy longing, melancholy, love, sadness, irritability. About cravings that come out of the blue, like lightning on a sunny day. βš‘οΈβ˜€οΈ

Now, let’s talk about the elephant in the room – weight loss. 🐘 The key to shedding those extra pounds isn’t just about dieting or exercising, it’s much deeper than that. It lies within our subconscious. We can program our minds for weight loss, believe it or not!

Many of us have gained weight during the pandemic (I call it the “Pandemic Pounds Phenomenon”). But don’t worry, we can shed all those pounds with some mind work and good, healthy, tasty food. Because food is a pleasure and food is fun… and losing weight doesn’t mean losing out on that! πŸ₯—πŸŽπŸ’ͺ

For instance, every time I crave bacon, it seems I miss a friend named… Anna Bacon. πŸ₯“ When I crave stuffed cabbage rolls, it means I miss my parents, while missing another person triggers a craving for grilled chicken with pesto sauce. Emotional craving? Maybe…

Yet there are also cravings that seem to have no emotional link. The craving for fish and lemon, or salads, comes when I feel the need to swim or exercise. In these moments, it’s as if my body is asking for fuel for physical activities.

So, what is my comfort food? I can’t say I have a favorite dish, but I can say that I adore my father’s perfect charcuterie board and my mother’s exquisite stuffed cabbage rolls. Otherwise, cravings come and go, like uninvited guests showing up at the most inconvenient times. πŸ–πŸ½οΈ

And when it comes to desserts, I’m not even consistent there. If you take me to a pastry shop in a hurry, I’ll probably opt for a mint and honey lemonade and… a frappe. Cakes? What cakes? But recently, I developed an obsession with ice cream – contagion from my better half. 🍨

So, dear readers, my comfort food is a collection of memories, emotions, and experiences, all expressed through my culinary cravings. Each craving is a story, each taste is a memory. And I invite you to join me in this delicious exploration of the soul through food.

Remember, food is fun, food is pleasure, and weight loss can be too. Let’s embrace this journey together!
