Hello, wonderful readers and friends!
Time perception says a lot about the activities we engage in. Have you ever noticed how as a child, time seemed to stretch endlessly when you were immersed in a new and exciting activity? π
Our senses, emotions, and thoughts are so engrossed in deciphering the NEW that we latch onto the present moment with intensity, causing time to dilate. This is why it’s recommended to step out of our routines and engage in new activities, especially learning, to challenge and stimulate ourselves to be 100% present. It not only intensifies our living experience but also helps in producing happiness hormones. The NEW helps us to see with the eyes of a child, to live exuberantly, and to think OUTSIDE THE BOX, educating us to be open to change and personal development. π±
On the flip side, there’s the effect of routine… for instance, a repeatedly taken journey will seem shorter each time. And now, back to the question at hand… writing has a time-dilating effect on me. ποΈ
Years ago, around 5 PM, I was working on a novel inspired by the lives of fine artists. Suddenly, my phone rang. It was a fine artist. Not one of my characters, mind you. We spoke, and then I resumed my work. I wrote several pages, six, seven, eight, I don’t remember. The phone rang again! The same fine artist. We spoke, and then he invited me to a terrace bar. I refused, saying it was too late. “Too late?! It’s only 5:25 PM,” he retorted. That’s how it went. π
Therefore, creation is magical, and creative writing has the gift of dilating time, allowing us to live more, more intensely, more… differently. The same goes for fine art, as I know from my significant other. π¨
I’ve also found that swimming and lounging on the beach have the same delightful time-stretching effect on me. So, I highly recommend these activities. πββοΈποΈ
So, dear readers, I urge you to find those activities that make you lose track of time, that transport you to a place where minutes stretch into hours. Embrace them, for they are the moments where we truly live.
Warm wishes,
Julia
