Sweet Nostalgia: Revisiting Childhood Comfort Foods

Daily writing prompt
Which food, when you eat it, instantly transports you to childhood?

Hey there, friends! 😊

Let’s talk about food that instantly transports us back to our childhood.

For me, that food is caramel – in all its delicious forms. Caramel candies, caramel sauce, caramel ice cream, caramel cream, caramel chocolate… caramel smell… sweet caramel… salty caramel… you name it, I loved it. 😍

But this summer, I realized that I had filled up on it. I was feed up. While it was a staple in my childhood memories – the days when I would put sugar in a kettle, let it melt, add some milk and stir easy, easy, till everything transformed into a cream – I knew it was time to take a break. Maybe I added also cream… sometimes butter or nuts… and made candies, cream, or even ice cream… frosting for cakes or who knows what…

Although I don’t advise indulging in too many desserts if you care about your dental health, I do encourage you to try your own childhood comfort food and see where it takes you. You may be surprised at the memories it unlocks. 🤔So tell me, have you ever tried connecting with your childhood memories through food? What was your go-to treat back then? Share your memories with me in the comments below and let’s reminisce together! 😊👇

  1. I cut most sugar from my diet but I’ve cream was my vice, I overindulged on it once I was an adult and had no one to monitor me! I do enjoy dark chocolate occasionally now since there’s not as much sugar in it but I do miss ice cream

    1. Congratulations on cutting most sugar from your diet! That’s an excellent step towards a healthy lifestyle. You should be proud of yourself for making healthier choices and finding alternatives that work for you, like dark chocolate with less sugar. Keep up the good work! 😊👏 #HealthyLifestyle #MindfulEating

  2. A While ago I tried this lollipop you dip in sherbet that I used to have loads as a kid but it’s definitely looked at as a kids thing so I’d be given odd looks if I was caught eating it out in public 🤣

It was as nice as I remembered but I also remembered I shouldn’t have too many of them 😆
